Confirmation Day

The Christian Education Committee was established by the Session to staff and supervise the congregation's teaching ministries as these relate to people of all ages. The Committee seeks to encourage and provide for the Christian nurture and growth of each member and visitor of the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury, especially the children and youth, for whom the congregation has accepted loving responsibility.

It is truly a privilege to share the good news of Jesus with children and youth in Sunday School, and in turn, to experience God’s loving kindness at work in and through their lives.

Sunday School Classes

We welcome children of all ages to join us at Sunday school each Sunday! To learn more about our Sunday school program, to volunteer to teach or to register your child for Sunday school, please contact our Associate Pastor for Youth Ministry and Christian Education and Youth Ministry, Rev. Hannah Lavaglio, at 609/395-0897 or stop by the church office during the work week.

Children ages 3 to grade 12 enjoy Sunday School each Sunday morning at 9:15 A.M. Sunday School begins every Sunday with 15 minutes of Gathering Time followed by 45 minutes of learning with one’s peers in a nurturing, interactive and safe environment. Our curriculum is age appropriate and taught by volunteers committed to sharing God’s love and the gift of Jesus Christ with our youngest friends.

Confirmation is a place for eighth graders to bring their faith and doubts, their joys and struggles, their awkward silences and joyful silliness, their burning questions and memorized Sunday School answers - simply put, to bring all of who they are - and to put their lives and experiences in conversation with the beliefs, history and traditions of the church. Where this leads us, only God knows!

Confirmation Class, for students who are in eighth grade class during the school year, will meet each Sunday from 9:30 - 10:15AM, and students are expected to stay for worship following class. During these months together, we will explore the major tenets of our Reformed Protestant Presbyterian faith. We'll ask: who is God? Jesus? The Holy Spirit? What is scripture? And the sacraments? All of these conversations will help youth better understand who they are as a beloved child of God, and what it means to choose to belong to a part of God's community. But more than supply the "right" answers, we will celebrate the questions and the divine mystery faith ultimately reveals. Contact Pastor Hannah for more information,

At the end of our time together, students who have successfully fulfilled their requirements (class and worship attendance, helping to lead worship one Sunday, and writing a statement of faith to be shared with the church session) are given the opportunity to join our congregation as confirmed members. This is a personal decision that needs to be made when the student is ready to join, which may or may not be at the end of confirmation. God calls us to membership at different ages, and we want to honor the uniqueness of each young person.

Students who choose to be confirmed will be confirmed in May during worship service. After worship, all confirmation students will be welcomed and celebrated during a special coffee hour hosted by the High School Sunday School class.
