George Andrews, Bell Choir Director: George Andrews diversified musical career as an arranger, composer and conductor began in 1953 in Baltimore, Maryland and because of his eclectic musical abilities and deeply sensitive understanding of all styles and nuances of music, George has been involved in virtually every aspect of the music industry in Manhattan for the last 40 years. A gifted musician in his own right, George took up the piano at age five and the trumpet at age ten. He was accepted to The Julliard School of Music in 1955 and then went to join the Navy (smooth move, George). After four years of playing trumpet in the Navy Bands, George earned his BM in Music Theory and Composition from Syracuse University. He studied Keyboard Harmony at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore and arranging with Marion Evans in New York City. And in addition to composing film scores, George most recently worked on an arrangement of Runnin’ Wild for the motion picture, Shooting Stars, directed and written by Armondo Linus Acosta. George and his wife, vocalist and composer, Jo Andrews, co-produced and arranged the CD, Center of Gravity, with folk-rock singer, Meghan Andrews. He also arranged the minimalist rock anthem, Girl Dream On, on Meghan’s second CD, Light’s Like This. Recently he has recorded a Christmas Album entitled “What if Mozart had Written White Christmas”. It was recorded in Italia, Estonia by Northern Lights Orchestra. Such songs as White Christmas, Frosty the Snowman, Winter Wonderland, and Santa Claus is Coming to Town are all available on Alexa! George can now add to his resume directing the Bell Choir at the First Presbyterian Church in Cranbury, New Jersey. In his spare time George loves improvising and playing the blues at the piano with grandson, Owen and granddaughter, Jenna.
