Skeet’s Closet
Skeet’s Closet was started as an Eagle Scout Project by parishioner, Donovan Mavoides in February, 2020. Donovan repurposed an unused Sunday school classroom to inventory and distribute gently used baby and toddler clothes after learning that a mother had reached out to our church for help clothing her infant.
The closet has grown quite a bit since early 2020. Through support of the Helene Cody Foundation and CPNS clothing drives, we have expanded our closet to offer clothing from Newborn to 5T. Care is taken to create a personalized clothing bundle for each child which takes into account the child’s gender, age and size when supplying in-season outfits, outerwear, and pajamas. Clothing pieces include a combination of new and gently used items. Items are bundled into a blue bag and tied with a personalized gift tag.
Skeet’s Closet works closely with caseworkers at RISE in Hightstown, NJ to identify children that will benefit from the clothing bundles. Often the clothes are distributed in connection to upcoming Christmas and Easter holidays. In addition, clothing bundles have been supplied to support the Afghan resettlement effort at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. We also distribute clothing on an as-needed basis when neighbors reach out for support.
We collect gently used or new baby and toddler clothes sizes Newborn to 5T and distribute to local families in need. Located in the First Presbyterian Church of Cranbury, donations may be left inside the flip top black benches at the entrance to Fellowship Hall or in white collection baskets inside the church.
